Restoring Volume and Adding Lift with Juvéderm Voluma

As individuals age, their skin cells gradually stop producing collagen and elastin, two proteins that are essential for healthy, elastic and young-looking skin. When this happens, the skin on the face can start to sag. Over time, fat becomes displaced, migrating to areas of the face where most people would rather not have it. Muscle tone is also lost. All these factors can lead to hollow, sunken areas of the face that lack volume. In addition, certain individuals have areas of the face, such as the cheek area, that lack fullness or lift from the get-go.

Fortunately, Dr. David Rankin, Dr. Dev Vibhakar and Dr. Adam Bauermeister of Aqua Plastic Surgery offer the newest injectable filler by Allergan — Juvéderm Voluma XC. This innovative, nonsurgical cosmetic treatment is the only dermal filler approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to add volume to the cheek area instantly.

Voluma dermal filler is similar to Juvéderm in that they are both comprised of hyaluronic acid (HA), a naturally occurring substance that helps the skin retain moisture. However, Juvéderm treatment is designed to smooth out moderate to severe facial folds and wrinkles around the mouth and nose. In contrast, our doctors uses Voluma to enhance volume throughout the cheeks.

In addition to providing patients with added fullness throughout the cheek area, this newest HA-based injectable treatment also provides a subtle lift throughout the treatment area.

Am I Candidate for Voluma Filler Treatment?

In general, you may benefit from Juvéderm Voluma XC treatment if you:

  • Are at least 21 years old
  • Would like to enhance your cheeks
  • Desire a slight lift throughout the cheek area
  • Do not have a history of anaphylaxis or a history of multiple serious allergies
  • Do not have a history of lidocaine allergies
  • Are not currently suffering from multiple severe allergies

Although HA-based fillers are typically biocompatible and therefore do not require allergy skin testing before treatment, you should let the doctor know if you suffer from any allergies prior to undergoing Juvéderm Voluma XC treatment.

What Happens During Treatment?

Juvéderm Voluma XC treatment is a quick, in-office procedure that does not require any downtime, so you can visit Aqua Plastic Surgery on your lunch break and return to work after the Voluma procedure.

Before treatment, one of our doctors reviews your medical history, examines your skin health and discusses your aesthetic objectives. He may apply a topical anesthetic, if needed, to maximize your comfort throughout treatment. The Voluma specialist then cleans the treatment area, preparing it with alcohol or another type of antiseptic. He injects a small amount of the Voluma filler into the desired areas, and may massage the areas to make sure the product is distributed evenly. After Voluma treatment, the doctor may temporarily apply an icepack to the treated area to minimize swelling and discomfort.

What to Expect After Voluma Treatment

Directly after treatment with Voluma in Jupiter or Miami, the treated area may be mildly tender, swollen, red or itchy. Applying an icepack on the treatment site may help alleviate any discomfort.

You should avoid strenuous exercise or other vigorous activity and sun exposure for the first 24 hours after treatment.

The aesthetic results of Voluma generally last about two years. To optimize the results, some patients may want to undergo a touch-up treatment a few months after the initial procedure. Our doctors will suggest the treatment protocol that is best suited to your unique aesthetic objectives.
