Scar Revision
While no procedure can completely remove a scar, a plastic surgeon can greatly minimize the prominence of a number of different types of scars. Often, topical steroids or steroid injections can improve the appearance of a scar. When steroid medications cannot fade the scar to the point where it is aesthetically acceptable to the patient, surgery may be necessary. Sometimes, a scar can be repositioned to where it is camouflaged by a natural crease in the skin. In other cases, especially in the case of larger scars, the scarred tissue may be removed and replaced with a skin graft.
Since the method of scar revision depends entirely on the type of scar, its location, and the patient’s skin, a comprehensive evaluation is necessary before the surgeon can develop a treatment plan. Individuals in South Florida interested in scar revision can contact us to schedule a consultation at Aqua Plastic Surgery.
Skin Cancer Reconstruction
Although people with fair skin and light-colored hair and eyes are more susceptible to the harmful effects of the sun, skin cancer can affect anyone. The most common type of skin cancer, basal cell carcinoma, can extend deep into the skin when left untreated. When surgical removal is the best treatment option, a highly trained plastic surgeon is often the most qualified person to perform the excision. He or she not only has the surgical expertise to remove the cancer, but the techniques to minimize scarring. Even if the skin cancer has been removed by another doctor, a plastic surgeon can employ his or her knowledge of reconstructive techniques to improve the appearance of any resulting scars.
