Breast Surgery Procedures
Often seen as symbols of femininity, a woman’s breasts can affect how she feels about her body. Some women are dissatisfied with the size of their breasts. Others are concerned about the loss of volume and firmness. Those with larger breasts may suffer from physical or emotional troubles. Even men can feel distressed about their chest, especially if they experience breast enlargement as a result of gynecomastia. Fortunately, there is a remedy for all of these concerns. Dr. Dev Vibhakar, Dr. Adam Bauermeister and Dr. Allyson Deziel offer patients a variety of procedures for the breasts, including breast augmentation, breast reconstruction breast lift, breast reduction, and male breast reduction.
Breast Augmentation
There are many reasons why a woman may consider breast augmentation, also known as breast enlargement. She may want breasts that are more proportionate to her figure, or she may simply desire a more curvaceous physique. Regardless of the reason a woman is interested in having larger breasts, the surgeon she selects must be well-qualified to perform the procedure. Our surgeons are highly trained in delivering consistently beautiful results.
Our plastic surgeons offer patients both Silicone and Saline breast implants. They perform traditional breast augmentation incisions including the periareolar (around the areola) and the inframammary (under the breast) technique. The choice of incision will depend on each patient’s individual consultation and desires.
Breast Lift
A breast lift is designed to help women whose breasts have begun to droop or sag after pregnancy, weight loss, or as a result of the aging process. Whether or not it is performed in conjunction with a breast augmentation to restore lost volume, a breast lift typically involves the removal of excess skin and the relocation of the nipple to a higher, more natural-looking position. The results are higher, rounder, and perkier breasts. Our plastic surgeons use the most advanced techniques in breast lifting to limit scarring while lifting the breasts.
Breast Reduction
Sometimes, having large, heavy breasts can cause a woman to develop neck and back pain, and other medical problems. Women who feel self-conscious because of their large breasts can also have difficulty with exercise. To help women who suffer physical distress as a result of having large breasts, our surgeons perform breast reduction surgery which can often be covered through insurance.
Reconstructive Nipple Surgery
Although there are new procedures that may allow a patient to keep her nipple, sometimes mastectomy surgery necessitates its removal. In order to provide patients with the most natural-looking replacement nipples, our surgeons perform an innovative procedure. Using skin transferred from another part of the body, or through use of a local skin flap, the surgeon fashions a permanent replacement nipple. To complete the transformation, the newly created nipple may be tattooed using pigment that complements the patient’s skin tone.
Breast Implant Revision
Sometimes, a breast surgery procedure performed at another location may not meet a woman’s expectations. In other cases, a woman may wish to increase or decrease her cup-size with a breast implant revision. Whether a woman is unhappy with the results of a surgery performed by another doctor or her aesthetic or physical needs have changed, our surgeons can perform breast implant revision using saline or silicone breast implants at our practice.
Cosmetic Nipple Surgery
Inverted nipples or nipples that are overly large or protruding can make women feel self-conscious about their bodies. At our practice in Jupiter, Boca Raton & Miami, our surgeons use a number of different techniques to treat these conditions. In many cases, natural nipple sensation is retained and the surgery does not interfere with the ability for women to breastfeed.
Breast Reconstruction
Breast reconstruction makes it possible for a woman to regain a shapely, feminine contour after a mastectomy. Most mastectomy patients are suitable candidates for breast reconstruction and it is frequently possible for reconstruction surgery to begin immediately following a mastectomy. There are two basic types of breast reconstruction surgery. The pros and cons of each type are thoroughly discussed during a breast reconstruction consultation with Dr. Rankin, Dr. Dev or Dr. Bauermeister.
The most common type of breast reconstruction involves the placement of a breast implant. First, a skin expander, a balloon-like device, is inserted beneath the skin and chest muscle. Over a period of several weeks, the balloon is gradually filled with liquid, making the muscle and skin stretch just enough to accommodate the insertion of the breast implant.
For women who do not want breast implants, flap reconstruction is an alternative breast reconstruction procedure. It involves the removal or relocation of tissue from another part of the body, such as the back, the abdomen, or the buttocks, to the breast.
Male Breast Reduction
Gynecomastia, or male breast development, is a common condition affecting up to 60 percent of men and may negatively affect a man’s self-esteem and his body image. At our plastic surgery practice we help male patients feel better about their appearance by performing breast reduction surgery. In some men, fat deposits localized in the breast region may make the breast larger; excess glandular tissue may be the problem in other cases. A comprehensive examination, then, is necessary for our surgeons to be able to outline a personalized surgical plan. This often includes liposuction and/or minimal tissue removal.
