BOTOX® treatments can effectively reduce the appearance of facial lines and wrinkles. Frown lines, crow’s feet, and laugh lines are all caused by contractions of the facial muscles. When these muscles are relaxed with BOTOX® Cosmetic, the signs of aging often seem to melt away.
The key ingredient in BOTOX® Cosmetic is a purified form of botulinum toxin type A. The toxin temporarily paralyzes the muscles that cause wrinkles, giving the skin a smoother appearance.
It is important that the doctor who administers the BOTOX® treatments be acutely familiar with the anatomy of the face. During a treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic, our doctors precisely target the muscles of the face that cause wrinkles in order to achieve the most effective results.
Healthy people who wish to minimize the effects of aging may be great candidates for BOTOX® treatments. Many of our patients choose to combine BOTOX® therapy with the use of other dermal injectables, such as JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel or Restylane® for more dramatic results. While BOTOX® Cosmetic can significantly improve the appearance of the skin, patients with sagging skin of the face or neck may be interested in facial cosmetic surgery to rejuvenate their appearance.
JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel
JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel is a popular FDA-approved soft tissue filler that can smooth the appearance of lines and wrinkles. This versatile dermal filler can also be used for natural-looking lip enhancement or to add contour to the cheeks or chin.
JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel is composed of hyaluronic acid, a substance which exists naturally in the body. A component of healthy skin, hyaluronic acid is responsible for keeping the skin hydrated. Unlike bovine collagen, JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel requires no allergy testing prior to treatment.
Men and women of any color skin may be suitable candidates for treatment with JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel. At Aqua Plastic Surgery, our doctors administer JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel using a very fine needle. This minimizes discomfort and allows the doctor to precisely target the areas of the skin that require treatment.
Results are often apparent after only one treatment with JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel and can last up to six months. Repeat treatments may be recommended to maintain smooth, youthful, healthy-looking skin. Often, our patients experience enhanced results by combining JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel with BOTOX® therapy.
A safe, versatile dermal filler, Restylane® can be used for a variety of purposes with often remarkable results. Restylane® can smooth facial lines and wrinkles, minimize scars, add definition to the cheeks or chin, plump the lips, restore lost volume, and improve skin elasticity and texture.
Like JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel, Restylane® contains hyaluronic acid, a polysaccharide (sugar) that naturally exists in human skin. Hyaluronic acid attracts moisture, promoting softer, smoother, more elastic skin. Over time, the body’s natural supply of hyaluronic acid is depleted. Restylane® replenishes this vital component of healthy skin.
No allergy test is required before treatment with Restylane®, because the hyaluronic acid in Restylane® is not derived from an animal source. Treatment takes about 20 to 30 minutes, during which our doctors use a very fine needle to inject Restylane® into the skin. Although some discomfort may be experienced at the injection site, little or no downtime is involved and results are immediately apparent.
Since hyaluronic acid is a natural substance, Restylane® is gradually broken down and absorbed by the body. So, while the effects of Restylane® are long-lasting, follow-up treatments may be recommended every six months to maintain the desired results.
Like JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel, Restylane®, and Perlane®, Radiesse® is a biocompatible dermal filler that is FDA-approved for the treatment of facial lines and wrinkles. Unlike the aforementioned injectables, however, Radiesse® actually stimulates the body to produce more collagen. Consisting of tiny calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in a water-based gel, Radiesse® provides immediate results by filling in deep wrinkles, such as nasolabial folds or marionette lines. As the gel component is gradually absorbed by the body, the newly formed collagen replaces the gel. The result is long-lasting facial rejuvenation.
Facial fat loss (or lipoatrophy) can make the face appear sunken or hollowed. Sculptra™ is an effective solution for facial fat loss and is particularly helpful for people with HIV lipoatrophy. Sculptra™ adds volume to the face by gradually thickening the skin. The main ingredient in Sculptra™ is poly-L-lactic acid, a safe, biocompatible material that has been used for many years in medical applications such as soft tissue implants and dissolvable stitches.
Also known as facial fat transfer, fat injections involve the transfer of fat from one location of the patient’s body to another. Fat injections can be used to smooth facial lines and folds, or to enhance areas of the face such as the lips, cheeks, or chin. Because the fat comes from the patient’s own body, there is no risk of allergic reaction. Due to the fact that the body will absorb the fat over time, however, repeat treatments may be necessary to maintain optimal results.
