What a Neck Lift Can Address

Our necks are often one of the first areas to show signs of aging. Loss of jawline definition and excess fat beneath the chin can make us look older or heavier than we feel. A neck lift addresses this by tightening loose neck muscle and removing excess tissue to give you a smoother contour and a more youthful look.

If you have any of the following concerns, a neck lift may be able to help:

  • Loose, sagging skin beneath your chin
  • A heavy, drooping profile
  • Excess fat under your chin or along your jawline
  • Deep horizontal creases and wrinkles that make your neck look aged
  • Vertical neck bands caused by separation of the neck muscles
  • A loss of definition between your chin and neck
  • Self-consciousness about how your neck appears in photographs or on video calls

For some patients, combining their neck lift with a facelift, eyelid surgery, or facial fat grafting is the best way to achieve a more comprehensive rejuvenation.

What to Expect with a Neck Lift

The Consultation Process

During your private consultation, Dr. Rankin or Dr. Deziel will perform a comprehensive evaluation of your lower face and neck anatomy. They’ll also ask you about your medical history and your concerns regarding your neck. These factors help create your personalized surgical plan and recommended complementary procedures, if necessary.

About the Procedure

A neck lift is performed on an outpatient basis, meaning you’ll return home the same day. The procedure involves making small incisions behind your ears or underneath your chin, then tightening your muscle bands and removing excess fat. Your skin is then gently pulled over the new contour, with any excess skin removed.

The procedure usually takes 2 to 4 hours, depending on complexity and if other surgeries are performed at the same time.

Recovering from a Neck Lift

The First Few Days

Expect mild swelling, bruising, and a feeling of tightness around your neck and jaw during the first several days post-surgery. Your doctor may recommend you wear a soft compression garment around your chin and neck to help you heal. Most patients say discomfort is manageable, especially with their prescribed pain medication.

Returning to Daily Life

Many patients return to desk work and light daily activities within 1 to 2 weeks. More strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, and activities that significantly elevate blood pressure should be avoided for several weeks. Patients should also try to keep their head elevated and avoid bending or twisting their neck sharply during this time.

Follow-Up Appointments

Follow-up visits are part of Aqua Plastic Surgery’s care package and are an important part of your recovery. Your doctor will monitor your progress to ensure everything is healing as expected.

When You’ll See Your Final Results

Improvements will be visible immediately after surgery, but swelling will temporarily affect your appearance. Most patients see significant improvement within a few weeks, with results continuing to refine over the following months. Expect to see your final results within 6 to 12 months.

If you’d prefer to start with a virtual consultation before traveling to Jupiter, that’s also an option. Our team can walk you through what to expect and help you decide whether an in-person visit makes sense from the start.

Neck Lift FAQs

A facelift primarily targets the lower two-thirds of the face, including the cheeks and jowls. A neck lift focuses exclusively on the area below the jawline down to the collarbone. Many patients see signs of aging in both areas and choose to combine the procedures for a more balanced improvement. Your doctor will listen to your concerns and evaluate your face and neck during your consultation so you can make the best decision for you.

Neck lift results are long-lasting, often holding for 10 years or more. Surgery can’t pause the natural aging process, so your skin will keep changing gradually over time. Even so, most patients find their neck continues to look years younger than it would have without the procedure. Keeping a stable weight, protecting your skin from sun damage, and staying consistent with skincare all help your results hold up.

The price depends on the complexity of your procedure and whether you combine it with another surgery like a facelift or facial fat grafting. During your consultation you’ll receive a clear, itemized quote so you know exactly what’s included before moving forward. That figure generally covers your surgeon’s fee, anesthesia, use of our accredited surgical suite, and your follow-up appointments.

Yes to both. You can begin with a virtual consultation from wherever you are, which is a convenient way to ask questions and find out whether a neck lift is right for you before coming to Jupiter. Aqua also offers financing through CareCredit and an in-house plan. Speak with a member of our team during your consultation to learn more about your options.
