Recovering from Mommy Makeover Surgery

Recovery from a mommy makeover takes longer than recovery from any of the component surgeries on their own, since the body is healing from multiple procedures at once. Most patients plan on 2 to 4 weeks away from work and a longer break from anything strenuous. Your timeline will depend on which procedures were included and how your body responds to surgery.

The First Week

The first week is the most demanding part of recovery. Swelling, bruising, and soreness across the breasts and abdomen are normal in the days after surgery. Aqua’s surgeons use several methods to manage pain, including a pain pump that releases Novocaine directly into the treated area and a prescription for oral pain medication. Rest is essential, and bending, straining, and lifting are all off-limits during this time, including lifting your children.

Returning to Daily Life

Most patients return to work 2 to 4 weeks after surgery, depending on which procedures were performed and how physically demanding the job is. Patients with desk-based work tend to return sooner. Light walking is encouraged from the start of recovery, but strenuous activity, exercise, and heavy lifting are typically restricted for 6 weeks to give the abdominal muscles time to heal fully.

When You’ll See Your Final Result

Final results from a mommy makeover are typically reached 6 to 12 months after surgery. Swelling resolves gradually, and the breasts, abdomen, and any liposuctioned areas continue to refine over time. Scars also continue to fade and flatten throughout the first year and beyond.
