What to Expect
The Consultation Process
The best way to know if breast reduction is right for you is to meet with one of our plastic surgeons for a consultation. During your visit, Dr. Rankin or Dr. Deziel will perform a physical examination, review your medical history, and discuss your goals for the procedure. Some patients also choose to combine breast reduction with a breast lift for a fuller rejuvenation of the breasts.
About the Procedure
Breast reduction is performed on an outpatient basis, meaning you’ll return home the same day. The surgeon makes an incision around the nipple, continuing vertically down to the curve underneath the breast, and horizontally along the breast crease. Through these incisions, excess breast tissue and skin are removed, and the breast is sculpted into a size and shape that’s better proportioned to your body. The work is done carefully to produce results that are symmetrical and natural-looking. Once finished, the incisions are closed with sutures and a surgical bandage is placed.
Recovering from Breast Reduction Surgery
Recovery from breast reduction is generally easier than recovery from more involved procedures, but the first week still requires rest and care.
The First Days
Some swelling, bruising, and soreness across the breasts are normal in the days after surgery. Aqua’s surgeons will provide a prescription for pain medication to keep you comfortable. Light walking is encouraged within a few days, but lifting or pushing anything should be avoided for several weeks.
Returning to Daily Life
Most patients return to work within 1 to 2 weeks, depending on how physically demanding their job is. Strenuous activity, exercise, and heavy lifting are typically restricted for 4 to 6 weeks to give the breasts time to heal fully.
Follow-Up Appointments
One of our surgeons will check on you the evening of your surgery. Additional follow-up visits are scheduled at intervals throughout your recovery so Dr. Rankin or Dr. Deziel can monitor your healing and clear you to return to your normal routine.
When You’ll See Your Final Result
Most patients begin to see meaningful changes in shape within a few weeks, with continued refinement over time. Final results, including the final position and shape of the breasts, are typically reached within 6 to 12 months as swelling resolves and scars mature.

Aqua Plastic Surgery is located about twenty minutes north of West Palm Beach in Jupiter. For most patients in the WPB area, the drive is a straight shot up I-95 to Indiantown Road, or along Alternate A1A for a more scenic route through Juno Beach.
Our office is in The Commons at Abacoa, with parking directly outside. For patients having same-day surgery, a loved one can drive you home after the procedure so you can begin your recovery right away.
