Gynecomastia Surgery FAQs
Male breast reduction is performed on an outpatient basis, so you can return home after your surgery to recover. Our surgeons can operate at our private surgical staff or at a local hospital where they have staff privileges. Your surgeon will vary the surgical approach according to your individual case and treatment plan.
The exact cost of your male breast reduction surgery will vary according to several factors, including the techniques that our surgeons use during surgery. We can provide specific cost information once we have consulted with you and have a better understanding of your case and needs.
We offer several plastic surgery financing options at our practice, including CareCredit plans and an in-house financing option. Please speak to a member of our team for more details.

What To Expect: Gynecomastia Surgery
The Consultation Process
Thinking a little more seriously about pursuing male breast reduction with our plastic surgeons? The first step is to meet with one of our doctors for an informative consultation to discuss your case and explain your personal goals. The doctor will also perform a physical examination of your breast area and note whether there is excess glandular tissue and/or fat deposits.
About the Procedure
Dr. Rankin or Dr. Deziel will make an incision around the areola (pink area surrounding the nipple) and excise excess glandular tissue. The surgeon will also use liposuction techniques to remove excess fatty tissue. (If your breasts are enlarged only because of fat — and not glandular tissue — liposuction alone may suffice.) The doctor will sculpt the remaining breast tissue to give you a flatter and firmer, more masculine-looking chest contour. The surgeon will close the incisions with sutures and bandage the area.
What to Expect During Recovery from Surgery
Mild swelling and pain is typical in the days following surgery. One of our plastic surgeons will write a prescription for pain medication to alleviate discomfort. You should rest and avoid strenuous activity (including bending and lifting) while the treated area heals. Light activity like walking is permitted when you feel ready. If our doctor has placed a compression garment around your chest, keep it in place until he advises otherwise.
Don’t rush your body to recover; instead, take the time to heal properly before returning to work and your normal obligations.
Follow-up
We will schedule several follow-up appointments with you to check your healing progress and clear you to return to your regular lifestyle.
