Rhinoplasty procedure in Jupiter, Boca Raton, and Miami FL

Rhinoplasty is a plastic surgery procedure that can not only help people feel better about the face they present to the world, but may help them to breathe easier, as well. Dr. Rankin, Dr. Dev and Dr. Bauermeister tailor the rhinoplasty procedure to consistently achieve results that are in perfect harmony with each patient’s facial features.

Candidates for Rhinoplasty

Ideal candidates for rhinoplasty are in generally good health and have realistic expectations about the procedure. Individuals who are unhappy with the size or shape of their nose and those who experience breathing problems due to a deformity within the nose may wish to consider rhinoplasty. Our South Florida plastic surgeons evaluate each prospective rhinoplasty patient with care. During this initial consultation and evaluation, one of our surgeons examine the patient’s nose, including the thickness of the skin and the underlying structure of the nose. He also listens carefully as the patient explains his or her goals for surgery and makes recommendations for the patient based on his or her physical needs and aesthetic desires.

The Rhinoplasty Procedure

Our plastic surgeons perform rhinoplasty either in our private operating suite, or at one of seven local hospitals in South Florida. After the rhinoplasty patient has been put under local or general anesthesia, Dr. Rankin, Dr. Dev or Dr. Bauermeister begins the procedure by making an incision in order to access the bone and cartilage. In many cases, the incision can be limited to the inside of the nose. In more complicated cases, however, an incision may be made in the column of tissue separating the nostrils. After the incision has been made, the doctor shapes the cartilage and bone using techniques appropriate to the patient’s individual needs. If additional definition is desired, the doctor may use a graft of cartilage to build up the ridge of the nose. After closing the incision, the surgeon applies a splint to the nose in order to keep it stable during the patient’s recovery.

After Rhinoplasty Surgery

Some swelling and bruising is normal after rhinoplasty surgery, and ice packs are recommended to ease discomfort and minimize swelling. After the rhinoplasty procedure, patients should rest with their head elevated. Although patients are typically able to return to work or school in approximately a week, they should consult their doctor before resuming normal activities. Patients are usually discouraged from engaging in any strenuous activity for at least two weeks. In the months after surgery, follow-up visits allow the doctor to monitor the healing process and to address any questions or concerns the patient may have.
