En Bloc Procedure in Florida
Safe Breast Implant Removal
There are many techniques that can be used to remove breast implants. In the case of breast explantation on women who experience symptoms of breast implant illness (BII), the en bloc procedure is the preferred choice. Essentially meaning, “as one,” the en bloc procedure involves leaving the capsule tissue intact on the breast implant and cutting around it without disrupting the capsule or implant. This is done to avoid contamination that may lead to breast implant illness.
En bloc is a delicate and meticulous procedure. When performed by an experienced and skilled breast surgeon, the procedure produces very successful results. Many women who have reported symptoms of breast implant illness have trusted Drs. David Rankin and Dev Vibhakar of Aqua Plastic Surgery. The surgeons have performed many explant surgeries and Dr. Rankin has even been featured in the media to speak on his expertise.

More on the En Bloc Procedure
The en bloc procedure was first developed as a way to remove ruptured silicone implants without contaminating the body with silicone gel. The procedure involves carefully removing the capsule (the scar tissue that grows and envelops the implant) and implant together as one so that there is no residue left behind.
The en bloc procedure uses an inframammary incision pattern, which is created horizontally underneath the natural fold of the breast. If the patient already has an inframammary pattern from their initial breast surgery, our surgeons will use the same incision when possible to minimize further scarring. The procedure typically takes two hours to perform and uses general anesthesia.
Once the implant and capsule have been successfully removed, the body begins a detoxification process, which Aqua Plastic Surgery monitors. In addition, drains will also be put in place to prevent fluid accumulation and discourage the formation of another capsule. The drains also help the breast return to its original shape.
In some cases, breast lift is performed to address loose skin. Breast lift eliminates the lax skin, and reshapes and repositions the breast tissue to a more youthful and aesthetically pleasing position on the chest wall.
It is important to note that the en bloc procedure is not possible in all explantation cases. Our surgeons will carefully evaluate your case and discuss your treatment options with you to determine which one is best for you.
The Benefits of the En Bloc Procedure
The en bloc procedure is beneficial for several reasons. First and foremost, removing the capsule and implant intact ensures that the body does not get contaminated by any fluids or material left behind by the implant. Second, it allows the breast tissue and muscle to settle back into their original positions on the chest wall, restoring a normal and natural-looking appearance.
